A
display devoted to history of education
since Old Russ times was created in the building of Collegium.
Displayed materials tell us about the beginning of written language
in Russ, illustrate the spreading of literacy among the wide groups
of population; pens, graffiti on a fresco, ceramic tableware, plinth,
bays are presented here. Basic attention is paid to the history of
Chernihiv Collegium: the classroom is reproduced (tables, benches,
pages of handwritten textbooks of the XVIII century, lists of
students, certificate, books, ink-pot (kalamarchyk), seal of
Chernihiv Collegium, bluebell, birch-rods and other. On the walls
there is an icon in St. Johann Maksymovych’s (the customer of
Collegium) clothings and the portrait of hetman I. Mazepa (sponsor of
Collegium). Among the exhibits there is a unique board with
I.Mazepa’s emblem, his monogram and inscription about John the
Precurser’s temple construction on the bell tower of Collegium. | |
